This morning my partner and I ran a good 10 mile pace run. She wants to run her 26.2 in 3:30 so we have been doing pace runs at and 8:00 mpm. Today we ran 8:04 mpm. and we both felt pretty good. I want to run a 3:40 so I feel ahead of the game. I read in Runners world about the goon within that takes over sometimes and gets us to believe we can't do it. Today if the thought came into my mind that I wasn't sure I could keep up the pace I would repeat " go away goon go away"!!!!

Welcome to the blog!

It sounds like you're well on your way to your St. George goal, and beyond. Those were some great 800's you ran yesterday too.

From huans32 on Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 11:12:28

Welcome to the Blog. I will have to try that next time on a run when the goon comes around. Seems to work for you. Great job on your run.

From luzylew on Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 19:27:30

Thanks for the runner's world advice! It will certainly come in handy in the next two weeks for all of us. But you're a fast runner! You'll probably exceed your own expectations, just you wait ( "Go Away Goons!" ). Thanks for that one! Welcome to the blog!

From Jody on Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 21:52:35

Great job! You will be mentally tough at St. George!

Britta, After seeing your pic, i realize that we've run into each other and chatted many times in passing, up there in Rosecrest...

How did you find the blog?

From Kim on Fri, Sep 12, 2008 at 11:52:43

Welcome to a fun little family of runners!

What half did you just do a 1:43 in? I am running SGM and it is my very first marathon ever. I am pretty excited. 3:40 would be on the fast end of what I expect to do. I ran Hobble Creek in 1:42:49 and Spanish Fork Half in 1:47:?? I'm just curious to see who will be in my same pace for the marathon.

Awesome!!!! Awesome!!!! We ran so well today. We even ran a negative split. First 10..1:32 last 10...1:24. I think our average was 8:51. I felt so good today and pushed the last mile for an 8:06. I felt really positive. I kept thinking to myself "okay prepare for the last 2 miles to hurt" and then I chased that thought away with "you feel great and the last two miles are NOT going to hurt." I am trying so hard to always be postive. I know how much of a difference it truly makes. Today was one of those days that I could have kept on going. In training for 4 marathons I have never had a 20 feel that good!!! Yeah!!!!!

Tried new pair of shorts today. They are really cute and I wanted to wear them for the marathon but they are not comfortable. Good thing I tried them out before M day. I felt good today. I have not been using my inhaler because I really haven't felt a need for it. I can't decide wether I will use is on M day. We averaged 8:45 mpm, pretty good for taking it easy.

Hey Britta,

SG will be my fourth marathon too!! Nice job on your hills. Did you get any additional sleep when you got home?

From Teena on Wed, Sep 17, 2008 at 12:20:30

Btw ... I responded to your question on my blog. Probably should have done it here. :(

From britta on Wed, Sep 17, 2008 at 15:15:57

I climbed back in bed about 2 min. before my 4 year old joined me. She was too busy poking at my face for me to get any sleep.

From marion on Wed, Sep 17, 2008 at 15:32:18

Welcome to the blog! The 4 year old are cute and all but not too condusive to sleep:)

From Teena on Wed, Sep 17, 2008 at 15:54:57

Well, 2 minutes is 2 minutes I guess! :)

What time are you shooting for? Are you shooting for a 3:40 or something less than that at SG?

From britta on Wed, Sep 17, 2008 at 16:10:03

I am shooting for 3:40. My partner is shooting for 3:30 she keeps trying to talk me into it because we have been doing the exact same training. I feel really confident about a 3:40 but 3:30 feels out of reach this year.

What are you shooting for?

From Teena on Wed, Sep 17, 2008 at 16:18:25

If you've trained for it, I'd say go for it! I need a 3:45 to qualify, but secretly I might just shoot for a 3:39.

I guess I'll just wait and see what feels good come Oct. 4th!!

30 min. tempo run today. It was chilly this morning. I felt good and did not need my inhaler.

My baby broke his leg by simply falling off the couch. He is in a cast from toes to hip. The doctor said he would not be able to walk, but I knew my little guy would figure it out some how. The cast has not slowed him down at all. (Yeah for me, my life would have been miserable if he couldn't get around) We call him "little pirate". He sounds and looks like he has a peg leg!!!!

PANIC!!!!! No I am not going to panic!!

My husband and my 4 year old are sick! They both threw up late last night so I headed down to sleep in the guest room to get away from them. When I came up this morning and discovered my daughter threw up 5 more times and my husband 3 more. I felt so bad, I had abandoned them.

I was thinking that it was just food poisoning with their symptoms until I went to get my baby out of bed and he had thrown up in the middle of the night as well. I felt so bad that nobody heard him puke or new he was even sick.

The baby seems fine today and has even been eating. My husband and daughter are keeping liquids down so that is encouraging.

I am washing my hands and praying a ton.

I can't get sick! I won't get sick!!!

Pouring Rain!!! I actually really enjoyed the rain. Besides the fact that my fingers were so frozen I could not get to my energy snack I brought (sweedish fish) I really thought the rain was kind of fun! I ran really well until about mile 21, my knee gave out on me and I almost fell over. After the one time of almost callapsing it didn't happen again.

I was really happy with the over all outcome and I felt mentally strong. I crossed the finish line thinking "is it really over all ready". I would have loved to qualify for Boston (3:40 for my age and gender), but I PR'd by 28 min. I would have to be crazy to be dissapointed.

I relied so much on prayer through out training and through out the race. I know heavenly father was with me and I am so grateful he is mindful of my desires.

What a blessing it is to have health!!!!!!!

Ran on the treadmill tonight. It was kind of nice because my husband and I got to workout together. He usually works out during luch but didn't today so we got to spend time in our gym together.

I did a Jillian Micheals circuit workout after. It kicked my butt I couldn't even finish it. My abs feel really tight though. YEAH!!!!

I need to work on toning my "problem areas" so I am going to focus on that and running for awhile.

I am also focusing on eating as little processed food as possible.

So I am going to do something I have seen a few men do but not women. I am going to track my weight on this blog. SCARY!! Women do not like to tell there weight. I am hoping it will help me be a little more accountable for the things I eat each day.

I have actually dropped a few lbs. since the marathon. Strange since I have been eating terrible. I typically weigh somwhere between 127-130 lbs. I would like to weigh somwhere between 120-123 lbs.

Averaged 8:00 min miles.

Weight 125 lbs.

You are awesome!! What gym do you workout at? I should probably hit some of the classes that concentrate on the core -- I can do most of the exercise fairly well, but those stupid sit-ups kill me!! Weird!

Also, I have found that since I have stayed clear of processed food (for the most part) that it has helped my asthma. Hopefully you'll notice that positive side of it as well.

Have a great day!! Laters.

From Jody on Tue, Oct 14, 2008 at 10:33:10

Great work out! My eating goals are the same as yours, but I am terrible at eating healthy. The surprising thing is that since the marathon, I have craved healthy food.

From Kelli on Tue, Oct 14, 2008 at 13:27:18

Way to work out hard, Jillian is mean. I am afraid I would cry if I did even a video of hers. She does kick butt!

Good luck with your new goals, I am sure you will do great.

From britta on Tue, Oct 14, 2008 at 13:42:53

Teena,

We built a gym in our basement. I workout there. I use to go to LIFETIME. I loved it but it was just too much of a drive and my baby would cry almost the whole time so I never got to finish my workouts.

I am excited to hear your asthma improved with your eating habits. Do you use any medications?

I do not have any races planned for the near future. I am planning on doing the Salt lake half in April and then the Grand Slam this spring and summer.

If anyone is planning on doing any races locally let me know I would love to have something to look forward to.

Jody,

I love sugar. So I am not very good at eating healthy either. These past two days I have done really well though.

Marion,

I am 5'5. I have a complex because my sisters are 5'11 and 6'1 and they are all legs and no butt. I am the opposite. Although, I got the workout/running gene so I wouldn't trade them.

Kelli,

We did not end up playing volleyball. We went to dinner in two seperate groups and the group with all the equiptment took forever so we stopped waiting for them.

Hope you are doing good.

Let's do start a Herriman running group. Maybe we could get the South Jordan group to tell us what workouts they are planning and copy them.

From Kelli on Tue, Oct 14, 2008 at 13:53:45

From marion on Tue, Oct 14, 2008 at 14:10:16

I can not believe you did 6 miles on the treadmill. I can not make myself do it. I do not know what my problem is. I guess I am weak!

I am recovered (but still running slow)---I will run with you anytime! We are meeting tomorrow at 6 am to run (the BBK group) if you are ready for that adventure. I am always up for something on Friday, too! Although, now I know that you are a skinny, tiny little waif of a thing, so I will be intimidated!

From britta on Wed, Oct 15, 2008 at 19:01:06

I actually was going to come tomorrow but my running partner wants to try and run in the morning. Her foot has been bothering her since SGM.

Anyway her husband leaves for work pretty early and so we don't have enough time to drive out to the trails. I am going to come sometime though.

You are welcome to come with us tomorrow. I am going for 8. She is not sure what she will be doing, it will just depend on how she feels.

I have seen a picture of you on your blog so you can't pretend like you aren't tiny. If anything I am intimadated to run with you... With your SGM time and all that went wrong you still beat me. I am going to have to try and keep up.

I am doing weights on Fri. but plan on running 10 on Sat. if you are interested.

From Jody on Wed, Oct 15, 2008 at 19:04:57

I was looking forward to meeting you tomorrow. Please come another time!

From Kelli on Wed, Oct 15, 2008 at 19:22:08

Goodness, we have opposite schedules! Actually, I usually do an upper body workout at the gym with my husband on Fridays (he has Fridays off) and then some treadmill running. So, I guess I am back to that plan! Darn, I wanted to ditch him.

I was also aiming for 10 Saturday, but I can not leave my husband behind! I guess he could follow us (or lead us, depending on how he is feeling). I will check our soccer schedules and see when we were planning on and let you know! If nothing else, maybe we will pass each other running in opposite directions!!

Do not be misled by my picture---I have teeny legs (the one good gene passed down by my mother), the baggy shirt hid the rest! ;-)

From Kelli on Wed, Oct 15, 2008 at 22:23:34

Okay, we have a soccer game at 8 and one at 12. So, we will be running at about 9:30 is my guess. I am sure you will be all done by then! But at least I know it will not be HOT at that time.

From Sasha Pachev on Wed, Oct 15, 2008 at 23:07:24

My treadmill PR is 10 miles. One time I was in Boston for business and it was raining outside. I did not want to have wet clothes in my luggage, and I was also somewhat curious how 6:00 pace would feel on a treadmill at sea level. Other than that the longest I've ever made on a treadmill is 3, I believe. After that, regardless how bad it was outside, the outside has always been more appealing.

From britta on Wed, Oct 15, 2008 at 23:46:56

Kelli,

I need to leave to run by 9 am on Sat. My husband is the coach of our sons football team and I need to be back to help him get all the kids to the game.

This is the last game this season so next Sat. hopefully will work out. I don't mind running with you and your husband as long as it doesn't bother him.

Jody,

I was looking forward to meeting you too. Will you email the schedule for next week and I will make it a priority to be to atleast one of the workouts.

Sasha,

I think the most I have run on the treadmill is 12. I for sure prefer the outdoors but as a women it is hard to go in the wee hours alone. My husband would not appreciate me worrying him like that.

Plus I am terrified in the dark alone with all the "boogie" men.

I actually have had a bad encouter with a pervert while running with my mom early in the morning. My mom has also been followed and harrased more than once. SCARY!!!

Anyway you can never be too careful.

From Kelli on Thu, Oct 16, 2008 at 16:29:09

12 and 10 miles on the treadmill? Wow, that is like some kind of TORTURE!!! I met a lady at the gym who was training for St George on the treadmill (she does it every year). Her longest run was 22 miles and she is like a 5 hour marathoner. I was impressed. But she says she likes it becasue she has a toilet, a drinking fountain, people to chat with, TV to watch, a fan to keep her cool, and so on. CRAZY.

We will one day have a nice run together. We actually have one more week after this of soccer. And tonight is the last football game. I am so glad it is almost over!!

Another Jillian Micheals workout. Hated it but loved it!!!! Know what I mean? I even finished it. I think it makes a difference when you don't run before. Plus, last workout she had me do 200 squats. I am walking like a duck. I can't wait to see what her workouts will do to my backside.

I am not too happy that I started posting my weight because it was horrible today!!!!

Why is it ladies you can eat great and gain weight? Men you would never understand!!!!

Glad you got out to run. Today was my second outside run since St George and it was hard. My knee is killing me for some reason. But I do not have asthma, thank goodness. Everyone seems to be struggling with that right now. SORRY! Take your meds!

From britta on Thu, Oct 16, 2008 at 18:24:05

I never should have started tracking my weight on here. All I can think about all day is what is the scale going to say tomorrow.

Frankly all it makes me want to do is eat more Chocolate Chips. I told my husband to buy semi-sweet instead of Milk chocolate. It is all his fault!! Now there are not enough chips to make his precious pumpkin choc. chip weight watcher cookies. I sure showed him huh!?

From britta on Thu, Oct 16, 2008 at 18:24:49

I think I should throw my scale away!

From Kelli on Thu, Oct 16, 2008 at 18:38:26

I hate scales as well, but I am addicted. I weigh myself like 4 times a day. It is a disease. But once again, I will trade you weights any day!

I LOVE those WW pumpkin chocolate chip cookies (1 point---if you can stick to one darn cookie!)

Now, for reality here. You are tiny. That is a tiny weight for 5' 5", so you really can throw the scale out!

My husband has his friends over tonight for the BYU game. There is a lot of un-healthy food sitting on my counter and this girl can not help herself to enough of it.

Thank you by the way, you are good for my ego or maybe bad. I don't know, either way don't stop calling me tiny!! How tall are you? You look petite in your blog pic.

I will let you borrow my weight if I can borrow your marathon time?

From britta on Thu, Oct 16, 2008 at 20:41:45

That last comment was for you Kelli if you couldn't tell.

From Kelli on Thu, Oct 16, 2008 at 21:36:23

That is a DEAL!!!

Um, I am currently eating a half of a peppermint ice cream shake (so very good). I had 2 pieces of pizza for dinner (that is a record for me, I usually have 3 or 4), earlier today I ate some banana bread and 3 cookies that my neighbor brought me (rude---but apparently it was baking day in the neighborhood because someone else brought me cinnamon rolls, but I let my kids eat them), and before that I actually ate a healthy breakfast and lunch. Maybe should run 30 miles tomorrow???

I am almost 5'7", so a little taller than you but not much. I have worked REALLY hard and i have lost 25 pounds in the last year and a half, but I still have so much belly fat (or maybe it is skin from having 5 kids, I dunno). It is depressing, but I think it would take surgery to fix, and I am not gonna do that (yet). So, I keep trying to lose weight just hoping it will come from my belly. We will see. In 5 pounds I will weigh what I weighed when I got married. I was a size 6 then, but I am nowhere near that now. How is that fair?

YOU ARE TINY! 125ish is so small!!!

From britta on Thu, Oct 16, 2008 at 22:29:55

Wow 25 lbs. that is awesome!!! Why does weight and body image have to be such a big deal?

Kelli, you really do look great and I think it is awesome you have 5 children. I hope to get there someday.

From Teena on Fri, Oct 17, 2008 at 00:10:26

From Teena on Sun, Oct 19, 2008 at 00:20:42

Britta, that is so funny because I have so been there. Well, kind of: Ryan's ipod if stacked full of Kenny Chesney (sp?), Lionel Richie, and The Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

Your entry made me laugh.

Btw, nice job on your run! :)

From Teena on Sun, Oct 19, 2008 at 00:28:25

I am being 100% truthful when I tell you that Ryan wore a Lionel Richie t-shirt today!! NO JOKE!!

Can you talk to him????

From Kelli on Sun, Oct 19, 2008 at 00:32:12

Oh my. If he is wearing a shirt, I think there is absolutely NO HOPE!!!! Hey, I have a quote for you to tell Ryan: Cross-country. Finally a good use for golf courses.

Seriously, we ran on a golf course once and i stepped on those darn triangular looking thingies and twisted my ankle. Golf courses are dangerous places!

From Teena on Sun, Oct 19, 2008 at 00:37:19

I think you are right ... he past the point of no return a long time ago. (The t-shirt is from the Tina Turner/Lionel Richie concert 7 or so years ago ... he still wears it!! He had to see Lionel, we didn't even stay for Tina.)

I love to golf though!! Only problem is that I have added a few strokes to my game since I started running. Need to get out more often I guess!! :)

From britta on Sun, Oct 19, 2008 at 00:44:22

You are so stinkin' awesome!! Ryan heard the Lionel song from the other room and came running in to see his man!! I'm laughing hysterically!!!

"Hello ... is it me you're looking for." He was seriously LOVING the youtube video!! Seriously loving it!!

From Teena on Sun, Oct 19, 2008 at 00:51:43

I think that is why Ryan likes Neil as well ... he remembers listening to him in the car on "road trips."

From Kelli on Sun, Oct 19, 2008 at 00:52:40

From Kelli on Sun, Oct 19, 2008 at 00:53:57

I am more of an ABBA fan.

From Teena on Sun, Oct 19, 2008 at 00:54:22

(btw ... he laughed at your quote of the day as well)

Britta, where are you??? You need to be in on this conversation!!

From Teena on Sun, Oct 19, 2008 at 00:55:29

Kelli, Ryan says it's Billy Joel. Does that sound right!!

I love ABBA as well.

Did you like Mamma Mia???

From Kelli on Sun, Oct 19, 2008 at 00:59:16

Billy Joel---there ya go! Why couldn't I think of that? Tired maybe?

I HAVE NOT seen Mamma Mia. We go to the movies at least 3 times a month, but Scott would not go to that one so I missed it. I will have to rent it. I heard it was really good! I was raised on ABBA and Alabama and The Oak Ridge Boys. Love them all---but that makes me cool, not old!

From Teena on Sun, Oct 19, 2008 at 01:05:06

Alright ... brushing my teeth and going to bed now. Looks like Britta left a while ago!! :)

From Kelli on Sun, Oct 19, 2008 at 01:07:10

Oh, I was just waiting for your reply so that I could say, "Why do you stay up so late? I am going to bed!" You beat me to it. No fair, you beat me in everything!

I was just finishing some last thoughts on my YW lesson on Dating. That should be fun!

Since you are reading this tomorrow---hope you slept well!

From britta on Sun, Oct 19, 2008 at 11:51:09

Man, I sure missed a lot.

Okay I have heard that song. The video...hillarious!

Oak Ridge boys and "Mormon Rap" is what we use to listen to on road trips as kids. Love the Oak Ridge boys, and I agree it makes us cool not old.

Teena, My husband Jon is 32, his dad use to bring Neil along while he was growing up so that is where he gets it from.

Kelli, We had the Dating lesson last week. The girls were so funny, I had to correct them several times that "No it is not okay to just live on LOVE, Marriage takes a lot more than just love."

Wow I got married at 19 and some of those girls are so close to 19. I must have been WAY more mature. Have fun!!!

From Kelli on Sun, Oct 19, 2008 at 15:24:52

Oh my goodness, that lesson was torture. I have this one YW that scares me (I secretly hope she does not show when I teach). She demanded I tell her why necking and petting were bad (after I had to describe to her what they were----painful!) She just kept saying she did not see what the problem was. I was so scared to read some of the quotes, but the other girls were so funny about it---they lightened it up a little.

I got married at 19, too. So I try to keep that quiet when I teach YW!!

From britta on Sun, Oct 19, 2008 at 18:21:54

That is so funny about the one girl. So, we have a member of our presidency that is actually like your girl. The president always has to make sure she never teaches without her or myself there, just in case we need to correct anything being taught. YIKES!!!

I love young womens the girls are great. Even the crazy ones!!!

From Kelli on Sun, Oct 19, 2008 at 22:06:42

We need to run to have a long discussion about YW's. I am getting burnt out and need some positive motivation! PLus, our ward has ISSUES like you would not believe! It is getting tiresome, but I want to stay becasue one of those YW is my child!!

I pm'd you the group info for this coming week!

Oh my! I cut a huge chunk out of my thumb nail while shaving. Who does that? It was right in the middle of my thumb. I couldn't have done that even if I was trying. I feel a little imparied today. Who new tying shoes or zipping up your pants could be so hard.

How funny Britta, I did the exact same thing yesterday. Smack dab in the middle of my left thumb.

It kills Right?! Can you tie your shoes a little better today?

From Michelle N. on Tue, Oct 28, 2008 at 11:08:09

Yeah, I wore a band-aid yesterday but decided to let it dry out last night and it feels a ton better today. Maybe it has something to do with our hair color:)

From Jody on Tue, Oct 28, 2008 at 12:38:28

OUCH!

It was great to run with you today! I never know how to dress, during this time of year 45 can be warm and 45 can be cold.

See you thursday!

From britta on Tue, Oct 28, 2008 at 13:11:51

It is for sure the hair! I wish I could say mine is this way because I get it dyed, but I don't, so I am a true blonde through and through.

From Michelle N. on Tue, Oct 28, 2008 at 13:14:45

I hear ya. I do high light mine but the blondness comes out in my actions often:)

From Kelli on Tue, Oct 28, 2008 at 13:34:48

Two blondes in the same room...not good. I said this to someone so forgive me if it is a repeat, but my 15 year old dyes her hair RED. My husband says it is false advertising because she is about as blonde as you can get! She has a 4 and a half inch scar on her shin from a shaving incident. Ask me about it Thursday, it is funny. I am too lazy to type it out and my fingers are numb and not functioning well!

Great run today. you guys were quick, it about killed me to keep you guys in sight! But the cold/sinus stuff is clearing up, so hopefully Thursday I can actually show up for the run!

Ran with a fun blogger group in Lehi! I ran with Teena for 8 of the 10 miles. Ran with Kelli the last two. Teena was so sweet today while I struggled. We ran on the Jordan River Park Way and all the plants and pollen or whatever it was was really getting to me. My asthma was acting up majorily.

It was a good reminder to start taking my daily meds again. I think I just get lazy and forget to take them. I am not really sure what my problem is.

Also, note to self, don't forget to take toilet paper!!!! hehehe. So imbarrasing!!!!!!!

I had to get home so I had to hurry and take off as soon as I got back to my car. I was so bumbed I couldn't hang out and get to know a few of you more.

I am so sorry that you were having asthma issues. If you weren't I probably wouldn't have been able to keep up with you! Seriously. You're a tough cookie.

Anyway, I absolutely loved running with you. Sorry that no one would answer that door we were banging on ... but all worked out!! :)

Hope you got home on time. And I'm excited that you are going to be joining us for the Saturday runs.

You would think after Sat. I would take my meds. Nope still haven't. Tonight I will!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From Kelli on Mon, Nov 03, 2008 at 20:23:54

We do not have to be there until 5:45, so I think that 5:30 is good---it is close this week, YEAH!!!

I am looking forward to chatting if you can run slow enough for me!! My breathing is struggling in the cold, but maybe your asthma will slow you down enough for me!

TAKE YOUR MEDS EVERY DAY!!!! I know where you live, I am going to come and feed them to you!

I almost brought you some cookies again yesterday, but I did not want to mess with the counting. So I ate them all instead!

From britta on Mon, Nov 03, 2008 at 21:30:30

Counting is going okay!! I have been eating really good the last few days. I am really good about counting the first half of the day but it seems to hard to count dinner. There are too many ingredients!!! Anyway I feel good about what I have been doing.

Thanks for not messing me up with the cookies. I for sure would have eaten them. I am going to walk away from the computer and take my meds right now!

Oh, and you are tiny and skinny and beautiful. I totally forgot to tell you this: I was talking to a lady named Lynette today at the gym. I have done Yoga with her forever, but have never asked her name. Anyway, I was talking about running this morning and she asked if I might by chance know you since you run with a group. I told her I did and then we talked about how hard it is to run with you because you look beautiful all of the time---no matter what!! She said she saw you voting and you had told her you had just run and you still looked AMAZING! Sickeningly beautiful you are!!! And thin.

From britta on Thu, Nov 13, 2008 at 18:53:06

Lynette is my Relief Society President. She is great.

After Yoga I decided to go to my sister's house and try her CHI. She has told me that they are so much faster than other hair straighteners, so I gave it a try. It took almost an hour to straighten my hair! That is way too high maintenance for me. Then we went to Chik Fil A and got lunch and went to Butterfield Park to eat and play. It was kind of cold, but the kids did not care. We were there until 3:30. Then I picked up the rest of the kids from school, went to get desert for Book Club, and now here I sit!!

How 'bout you??

From Kelli on Mon, Nov 17, 2008 at 21:46:13

I have no clue, but I am SURE you can do it with work.

Great run and glad you are LOVING it.

From Teena on Mon, Nov 17, 2008 at 22:32:37

Hey Britta,

Nice run!

So what would that make your goal? 8 miles at a 7:42 pace? I'm sure you can do whatever you set your mind to, just be careful!! That's a 12% increase in speed, it's a lot, but you are a tough cookie. I think I have read somewhere that a 5% improvement a year is great. So I guess that means 12% is Great Great and almost half of another Great!! Just be careful and enjoy yourself. (In otherwords, DON'T GET INJURED!!) :)

From Kelli on Mon, Nov 17, 2008 at 22:37:13

I knew someone out there would do all of the math!!!

From britta on Mon, Nov 17, 2008 at 23:05:54

Only 5% increase!!! That totally bums me out! Now I feel like it is too lofty of a goal. I will take any improvement though.

From Teena on Mon, Nov 17, 2008 at 23:14:47

Britta,

I just looked at my running journal, and I took off about 45 seconds per mile during my tempo runs this year compared to last year. So don't be bummed, you can do it ... just be CAREFUL ... I think I would not have got injured if I would have taken some time off after SGM and then again after Snow Canyon. Just a thought!! You can do it!! I really think you can.

From MichelleL on Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 20:48:50

Ok so here's my two cents. I don't think the pace on your easy days matter nearly as much as your hard days. So long your easy days are easy, you get the mileage you are wanting, and you are recovered for your next hard day, you have accomplished what you need to for that day. So, the real question is whether you can drop about a minute in your tempos. Well, its feasible, but it is a lofty goal.

Lofty goals rock, so long we chase them step by step and logically. There's no limit to your improvement if you gradually increase mileage, intensity, and listen to your body really well. Injury is always a concern. Barring injury, you'll likely improve in direct correlation to the consistent effort you put into your running. Are you coming down for the Saturday run after Thanksgiving? It'd be great to meet you! I hope your hip is feeling better. Is it really your hip or groin? Ok, I think my comment's long enough, I am signing out :)

From britta on Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 21:47:13

Michelle,

Thank your for your 2 cents. It really means a lot coming from a rockstar runner like yourself.

I ran 3:45 at SGM 08. I am thinking of making 3:30 my goal for Ogden 09 and 3:20-3:15 my goal for SGM 09.

Yes, No? Does this sound do-able. I want to improve as much as I can before we add to our family.

I am not coming to the run the Sat. after Thanksgiving. I wish I could but my brother is going through the temple that morning. I would love to meet you too. It will have to be another time though.

The pain is my hip. It has happened to me before. I think actually what happend is my knee was bothering me a bit so that affected my form and now my hip feels a little out of wack. Anyway, when it happened before I just took a few days off and then I was fine. So I am not too worried.

You are so awesome!!

Nice pace, especially considering that your asthma was acting up a bit.

Keep your goal Britta. You can totally do it. Just be careful and continue to run smart.

14 miles already, and it's only Tuesday!! Nice!

From britta on Tue, Nov 18, 2008 at 10:21:13

Thanks Teena! I am going to stick with 7 miles 3 days a week and a longer run on Sat. I am going to start adding speed work in a few weeks. I just haven't decided before or after Christmas.

4 days a week seems to be perfect for me. That is all I trained for SGM and I PR'd. So why fix something that aint broke?

I hope you are back soon so we can do speedwork and Sat. runs together.

I am sending love your way!

From Kelli on Tue, Nov 18, 2008 at 10:24:07

Nice running Britta! Sounds like you've got a good training plan.

Asthma, 7 miles and that pace, Awesome job!

From Michelle N. on Wed, Nov 19, 2008 at 18:11:49

My lungs didn't feel the greatest after my run yesterday. I wonder if it is the lovely inversion crap in the air. Does that seem to affect your asthma? It sure does with my 2 kiddies that have it.

From britta on Wed, Nov 19, 2008 at 18:33:48

Hmm I wish I new what inversion means. I know I should I am old enough! I am a bit of an oblivious person. I don't pay much attention. (you know what color my hair is don't tell anyone else)

So what is inversion? Something to do with the atmosphere I assume?

From jona on Wed, Nov 19, 2008 at 18:35:15

Here you go Britta

Jon

Please don't think any less of me!

From Michelle N. on Wed, Nov 19, 2008 at 18:40:06

I will tell you also to put it in blonde terms (although I have the same disease:). Inversion is all the pollution that settles in the valley basically during the cooler months. Typically when it snows or rains, it clears it out. Smog would maybe be another term but not totally the same.

From Kelli on Wed, Nov 19, 2008 at 18:41:18

BRITTA---it is very bad to run outside in the inversion when you have asthma! Be careful. if it gets any worse, I will ban my husband from outdoor running (he will be mad). But it is NOT GOOD for even those of us without breathing problems. Take your medicine!

Ahhh---I gotta get to the bank before it closes! Dang, I get lost reading my e-mails sometimes.

From Michelle N. on Wed, Nov 19, 2008 at 18:44:45

Wow Jon, I looked at your link and I think my definition was pretty dang good! Blond hair and all!

From jona on Wed, Nov 19, 2008 at 18:45:25

Britta, I would NEVER think less of you! I can't spell, and I rarely know what some of the big words are that smart people use. Why do you think I had the dictionary link so fast?

From jona on Wed, Nov 19, 2008 at 18:46:29

Michelle,

I think I like yours better. Blonds get a bad rap!

From Michelle N. on Wed, Nov 19, 2008 at 18:47:44

That's right! I'm not as dumb as I look my:) My husband tells me that all the time.

From britta on Wed, Nov 19, 2008 at 18:54:27

Here's one for ya! I can't believe I am telling you guys this. I grew up in Utah and have lived here most of my adult life and still do not know the names of the freeways. I know there names I just don't know which is which. I just know were they all go. It makes my dad crazy. Ever time he gives me directions he tells me which freeway to get on and I still don't know which one to take unless he tells me where it goes.

DUH!!!!!

From Michelle N. on Wed, Nov 19, 2008 at 18:59:04

Oh, and if it makes you feel any better, my brothers still sing Van Halen's song JUMP as MAXWELL JUMP because that is what I thought it said for the longest time.

From Kelli on Wed, Nov 19, 2008 at 19:13:54

How many freeways are there? I-15 and I-215???

From britta on Wed, Nov 19, 2008 at 19:19:28

Is this a trick question, are you trying to set me up?

What about I-80?

From Kelli on Wed, Nov 19, 2008 at 19:26:19

Well, I-215 turns into I-80 at some point! It is confusing. I never use I-80. But, i grew up off of I-215, so I know I-215 and I-15. I am sure there are others. Plus there are all of the state roads that are like freeways. Scott knows them all and i get confused, too. BUT, I know two of them!

I saw the midnight showing of TWILIGHT last night. IT WAS SOOOOO DANG GOOD!!!!!

Warning: We had two girls with us that had never read the book and they did not enjoy it as much. There were a few parts to understand it would have taken so much detail for them to understand that it would have ruined the movie.

I loved who they chose for all the characters. It was so well done!!!!!!

I am ready to see it again TODAY!

It sounds like the IT band. Mine bugs me in the hip. The IT band runs from the top of your hip down the side of your knee. I use a rolling pin and I'll even dig into with the end of the remote control. There are a ton of stretches on line that help a lot too.

Great miles and pace ;)

Good job getting some workout in. Its hard to do when your injured, and running is what you like. So, good for you!

When is that appointment?

So I said I wasn't going to run until I see the Dr. Well, I just couldn't stand it anymore and my IT band hasn't been hurting at all. So I promised myself even if I felt good I would only do 3 miles.

It only took about 3 strides for the pain to kick in. It was only a 3/10 so I decided to keep going. By the end of the run I had no pain just tightness. My stride felt akward and not very smooth. My foot fall sounded heavy.

I also did my Jillian Michaels workout. I am on my 4th day of her 30 day "making the cut" program. I couldn't have lived with myself if I let this "down" time in running get the best of me. Her program is supposedly meant to help you drop the last ten pounds. The first two days I had gained a half lb. so I was not very happy, but this morning I was down 2. So I guess I will stick with the program and see where it takes me.

Way to go Britta. That seems like a good sign that the pain went away by the end of your run.

From jona on Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 00:20:19

Good run Britta. Glad your pain was low. I too think its a good sign that the pain was gone by the end. Take it easy, you'll be back!

From britta on Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 11:24:02

Jon, and Cal,

Last night we went to the Kurt Bestor concert and all the walking and then sitting still for 2 hours really aggravated (sp) my leg. I went to bed last night in pain. What does that mean?

This morning I feel so much better my pain level is only at a 1/10 and that is only going up and down stairs.

I was in Heaven yesterday while I was running and I so hope I can run this coming week.

From Teena on Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 12:07:25

Britta,

My thinking is that if the pain is going down that quickly then it will be something that Dr. T can help you with quickly. At least that makes sense to me!! You see him tomorrow, right? Hopefully he will have the answer you are looking for.

Hope you had a great time at the concert and I'm glad you were able to get some of those "heaven vibes" running yesterday.

Have a great day!

(btw, I can't remember if you do yoga or not ... do you?)

From jona on Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 14:21:52

Britta, I'm with Teena, I think if the pain goes away fast its a good sign. That long lasting, lingering pain is when I get nervous.

I think also one of the key things with yesterday to think about is that you were (if I understood what you implied) more active than usual. "All the walking", added onto the 3.10 miles of running, injury that isn't back to 100 %, then "sitting still for 2 hours". That would spell tightening and some aggravation to me. I tightened up yesterday after I ran, then was sitting around two hours after for about 1.5 hours. When I stood up I was very tight in the legs.

I think Dr T will have good news for you, and I'll bet you will be building your miles soon, slow, but building.

Keep us posted what the pro (Dr) says.

From britta on Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 15:57:04

I sure hope I will be running like I want soon.

Teena, I don't do Yoga regularly. I do a few poses mostly for core like the plank but nothing serious. I have been looking into signing up at a gym so I can take a class twice a week. Any suggestions?

Jon,

What time are you guys talking about meeting? I will be in as long as I can run. I would think my max would be around 8 miles, just to be safe.

From jona on Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 16:08:13

We haven't set a time. I would suppose it will be no later than 8. Probably 7, but I will let others decide.

From Teena on Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 18:59:46

Britta,

I bought some of Rodney Yee's yoga dvds when someone suggested doing yoga when I was having problems with my knee and IT band. I believe that they were a HUGE help and still do them. You might want to at least give them a try. There is one at Target called "AM/PM Yoga" by Rodney Yee that I think is great. The AM portion only takes about 17 minutes or so and has some awesome stretches for the IT band. Anyway, Kathie (on the blog) was the one who got me started. It's definitely worth a try.

From Kelli on Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 20:57:12

I know that the stiffness from my IT band was REALLY bad after sitting for any prolonged period of time (still is). Just make sure to stretch a bunch!!!

Glad you got in a run---yeah!! And where on earth did you lose 2 pounds from????? You are such a tiny thing, for real!

From britta on Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 23:47:44

Teena,

Thanks for the info. I will check them out. I have taken a Yoga class a few times and really do like it. It would help to have some videos to do on my own.

Kelli,

Look who's talking! I know what size jeans you bought this week!!!

I am so bad at staying on top of my stretching. I will renew my efforts this week.

From Kelli on Mon, Dec 15, 2008 at 19:03:36

Whatever you say, I know yours are smaller!!! But for that I am happy, I have such cute, skinny, stylin' friends that it makes me cool!!! (That is according to my teenager!)

You are beautiful!

From Cheryl on Mon, Dec 15, 2008 at 19:15:50

Britta--

Good luck with your injury. We want to see you back at our group! I highly recommend yoga also. I had my best year of running (that means no injuries) when I was doing yoga regularly. I go to the So. Jordan Rec Center, there is a class there on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I know that would be far for you to drive. If you can get a DVD and stick with it, that would be great. I was never disciplined enough to stick with the tapes. Anyway, good luck with everything.

From britta on Mon, Dec 15, 2008 at 22:05:52

Cheryl,

Thanks for the well wishes. I am planning on coming to the group on Thurs. as long as everything goes okay at the Dr. I really don't think it will be too long until I can run the mileage I want to again. I am feeling really good, just playing it safe.

Can't wait to hear how it goes tomorrow!

From britta on Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 15:42:37

Yes you should try the workouts I really do like them. They take me about 35 min. and I think they will be such a great addition to my running life. You do not use too much weight yet they build muscle.

I will give an update about my Dr. Visit later when I have more time.

I saw Dr. Toronto today. So, it is not my IT Band it is something underneath my IT Band. I can not pronounce it or spell it.... so sorry!  He gave me a little something to put in the hill of my shoe and some pills to help the inflamation go down fast. He told me to run 3 miles today and give him a call and let him know how it felt.

Play by play!

Mile 1 No pain, but tightness

Mile 2 Ran past Pizza Hut and the pizza smelt oh so good! No pain, but tight

Mile 3 No pain, but tight.

Whoa Who!!!!!!!! We shall see what Dr. T tells me when I call back today.  I plan on seeing all you BBK's on Thurs. (Weather permitting I can get out of Herriman)

I also did my Jillian Micheals circuit. 35 min.

From Teena on Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 11:40:43

Very nice Britta!!

I'm amazed at how those shoe lifts help so many people.

Good news!!

(my guess is that the yoga would be very beneficial for the tightness in your hip as well)

Have a great day!!

From Cal on Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 14:13:26

That's great about your pain-free run Britta! I assume that Dr. Toronto prescribed 'Prednisone', right?

Oh yeah, and i'm feeling ok, thanks for asking. Just couldn't fit in any running for the last 2 days.

From britta on Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 15:57:15

Cal,

It is not prednisone it is celebrex. My hip is a little tender today going up and down stairs but I'm feeling really optimistic that things will get back to the way they were soon.

From Cal on Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 16:02:47

Way cool. It appears that Celebrex has fewer side effects than Prednisone. I hope that does the trick for you!

From britta on Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 16:11:14

Oh good! I hate to take medications. I don't do it unless I absolutley have too. Fewer side effects is good news. Are you coming to BBK tomorrow?

From Cal on Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 16:14:29

If everything falls into place (including the weather), then I will be planning to make it there.

From britta on Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 16:26:35

Same here. I ran outside yesterday and I spent a lot of time trying not to slip. My treadmill just broke though so either way I have to run outside. Either with the BBK or alone. Maybe I will hook up with Scott and Kelli. We need to start our Herriman group!

From Kelli on Wed, Dec 17, 2008 at 19:24:05

We do need to start a group here for the bad weather days!! Too scary to actually drive somewhere, plus we have much wider and better lit roads here!!!

Glad to hear it is going well for you, I hope it is the MAGIC pill and lift that will work!!!

Late Afternoon run. Ran past Pizza Hut again. It smelled so good. I was only planning on doing 3 but I felt so good and was loving being out so I kept going. I wished I could have gone a few more but I told my husband I was only doing 3 so I thought he might get worried, and it got dark. I really didn't want to go because my hip was hurting and I was thinking I would just have to come back after a 1/2 mile. So needless to say I was very happy with my run today.

I think my average was somewhere around 8:55.

I need to remember to go slow while I am healing or else I am affraid I will not be able to go at all. I almost fell about ten times (it was so slippery) but still loved being outside.

We went and bought a new treadmill today. I was going crazy with all the snow here in Herriman. It is possible to run out here just not very safely. You have to run in the middle of the road and that doesn't work too well when there is a car coming. Plus it is very icy even in the the road.
