I have 4 kids, 2 boys and 2 girls. 11, 9, 6 and 2. I have been married to my guy for 13 years. He is great and so supportive of my running life. He is also very active, mostly weight training and he has run 2 half marathons as well. He is very fast without training too hard. 1:28 Half Marathon!!! I am working on being able to keep up with him. Someday when are kids are older we look forward to training together.

So I said I wasn't going to run until I see the Dr. Well, I just couldn't stand it anymore and my IT band hasn't been hurting at all. So I promised myself even if I felt good I would only do 3 miles.

It only took about 3 strides for the pain to kick in. It was only a 3/10 so I decided to keep going. By the end of the run I had no pain just tightness. My stride felt akward and not very smooth. My foot fall sounded heavy.

I also did my Jillian Michaels workout. I am on my 4th day of her 30 day "making the cut" program. I couldn't have lived with myself if I let this "down" time in running get the best of me. Her program is supposedly meant to help you drop the last ten pounds. The first two days I had gained a half lb. so I was not very happy, but this morning I was down 2. So I guess I will stick with the program and see where it takes me.

Way to go Britta. That seems like a good sign that the pain went away by the end of your run.

From jona on Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 00:20:19

Good run Britta. Glad your pain was low. I too think its a good sign that the pain was gone by the end. Take it easy, you'll be back!

From britta on Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 11:24:02

Jon, and Cal,

Last night we went to the Kurt Bestor concert and all the walking and then sitting still for 2 hours really aggravated (sp) my leg. I went to bed last night in pain. What does that mean?

This morning I feel so much better my pain level is only at a 1/10 and that is only going up and down stairs.

I was in Heaven yesterday while I was running and I so hope I can run this coming week.

From Teena on Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 12:07:25

Britta,

My thinking is that if the pain is going down that quickly then it will be something that Dr. T can help you with quickly. At least that makes sense to me!! You see him tomorrow, right? Hopefully he will have the answer you are looking for.

Hope you had a great time at the concert and I'm glad you were able to get some of those "heaven vibes" running yesterday.

Have a great day!

(btw, I can't remember if you do yoga or not ... do you?)

Britta, I'm with Teena, I think if the pain goes away fast its a good sign. That long lasting, lingering pain is when I get nervous.

I think also one of the key things with yesterday to think about is that you were (if I understood what you implied) more active than usual. "All the walking", added onto the 3.10 miles of running, injury that isn't back to 100 %, then "sitting still for 2 hours". That would spell tightening and some aggravation to me. I tightened up yesterday after I ran, then was sitting around two hours after for about 1.5 hours. When I stood up I was very tight in the legs.

I think Dr T will have good news for you, and I'll bet you will be building your miles soon, slow, but building.

Keep us posted what the pro (Dr) says.

I sure hope I will be running like I want soon.

Teena, I don't do Yoga regularly. I do a few poses mostly for core like the plank but nothing serious. I have been looking into signing up at a gym so I can take a class twice a week. Any suggestions?

Jon,

What time are you guys talking about meeting? I will be in as long as I can run. I would think my max would be around 8 miles, just to be safe.

From jona on Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 16:08:13

We haven't set a time. I would suppose it will be no later than 8. Probably 7, but I will let others decide.

Britta,

I bought some of Rodney Yee's yoga dvds when someone suggested doing yoga when I was having problems with my knee and IT band. I believe that they were a HUGE help and still do them. You might want to at least give them a try. There is one at Target called "AM/PM Yoga" by Rodney Yee that I think is great. The AM portion only takes about 17 minutes or so and has some awesome stretches for the IT band. Anyway, Kathie (on the blog) was the one who got me started. It's definitely worth a try.

I know that the stiffness from my IT band was REALLY bad after sitting for any prolonged period of time (still is). Just make sure to stretch a bunch!!!

Glad you got in a run---yeah!! And where on earth did you lose 2 pounds from????? You are such a tiny thing, for real!

From britta on Sun, Dec 14, 2008 at 23:47:44

Teena,

Thanks for the info. I will check them out. I have taken a Yoga class a few times and really do like it. It would help to have some videos to do on my own.

Kelli,

Look who's talking! I know what size jeans you bought this week!!!

I am so bad at staying on top of my stretching. I will renew my efforts this week.

From Kelli on Mon, Dec 15, 2008 at 19:03:36

Whatever you say, I know yours are smaller!!! But for that I am happy, I have such cute, skinny, stylin' friends that it makes me cool!!! (That is according to my teenager!)

You are beautiful!

Britta--

Good luck with your injury. We want to see you back at our group! I highly recommend yoga also. I had my best year of running (that means no injuries) when I was doing yoga regularly. I go to the So. Jordan Rec Center, there is a class there on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I know that would be far for you to drive. If you can get a DVD and stick with it, that would be great. I was never disciplined enough to stick with the tapes. Anyway, good luck with everything.

From britta on Mon, Dec 15, 2008 at 22:05:52

Cheryl,

Thanks for the well wishes. I am planning on coming to the group on Thurs. as long as everything goes okay at the Dr. I really don't think it will be too long until I can run the mileage I want to again. I am feeling really good, just playing it safe.
